Campervan Hire Trips around Los Angeles, San Diego, Joshua Tree & Palm Springs.
Rent a Wicked Camper in LA and head straight on down to San Diego, park up and walk across the border to Tijuana. Score firecrackers, cheap booze and a sombrero then head on out to Joshua Tree...
1. Hire a Wicked Campervan in Los Angeles...
Pick up your Wicked Camper from our depot in LA and hit the road baby! Downtown LA (the one-time wasteland), is where you’ll find plenty of art, fashion, food, culture and yep, homeless people.
Los Angeles is home to people from more than 140 countries speaking 224 different identified languages. Based on population alone, if the Los Angeles urban area were a state it would be the fifth largest in America, behind California, New York, Texas, and Florida.
Did you know it's actually illegal to lick a toad in the City of Angels? Yeah, so don't go around licking toads. I had to warn ya, you sick toad licking bastards.
Go educate your-self in some local history and soak up the awesome architecture that LA has to offer.
2. Go to Hollywood, get famous...
You're in Bukowski's Los Angeles now...dirty, dangerous (not really) and full of tragic personalities, all clamouring to be seen and heard. But wait, there's mroe...Park up your campervan and check out Universal Studios or take a tour around Warner Bros. Then go frolic around those famous stars along Hollywood Boulevard. By the way, I hear ''The Rock' has a star now? That’s the only star I’d care about - he’s so dreamy...
For an awesome feed, check out many of West Hollywood’s restaurants and get loose along the Sunset Strip afterwards.
Did you know that the Hollywood sign was originally composed of 13 letters that spelled out “Hollywood Land” The last four letters of the sign were dropped in 1949. So don't go putting Hollywood Land in your GPS, because that would be stupid.
"Los Angeles is full of very odd people, believe me. There are many out there who have never been on a 7:30a.m. freeway or punched a time clock or even had a job and don’t intend to, can’t, won’t, will die first rather than live the common way."
Take a skatey and cruise down Santa Monica’s promenade, pick up some beers and check out the world famous Venice Beach. The sea is just in the distance man, head down Sunset Boulevard, grab some lunch, sit back and take it all in. You’re in Santa Monica dude!!!
You can't come to Santa Monica and not grab a hot dog. A hot dog on a stick that is. Grab one from the Santa Monica Pier, they've been serving them since 1946. Least you could do is give it a good suck.
Ok enough sucking, get back in your campervan and hit the road to Palm Springs.
4. Cruise from Los Angeles to Palm Springs...
You can pick up your campervan from our LA depot and drive to the middle of the desert in just a couple of hours. The city will seem so far away, but don’t worry, you’re in good hands - you’re in Palm Springs (I tried to make a pun here but nope…couldn’t get anything).
Uptown Palm Springs is home to a number of art galleries and vintage shops, while the Backstreet Art District in South Palm Springs offers a chance for you to see artists at work.
Another thing to note here is that Palm Springs has 350 days of sunshine every year. That just may be the reason why everyone is in such a good mood.
5. Scare yourself shitless on the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway...
Scared of heights? Well stop reading here pussycat. Take a break from your campervan, visit Palm Springs Aerial Tramway and fly like a bird up an 8,516 foot mountain.
It’s so high, I feel high just thinking about it. Or maybe that’s the weekend after effects. Whatever, just don't ride it high. I imagine that would be pretty freakin’ scary.
The views are breathtaking and it’s an experience you won’t ever forget. Just make sure you arrive early otherwise there’ll be a queue longer then the mountain itself, well not quite, but you catch my drift. Shit gets heckerz.
6. Start driving south...
Head south and take your camper through desert and mountains via the Palms to Pines Highway on your way to San Diego. Park up your campervan in Temecula Valley - you’re in wine country man, pick up some bottles and indulge in what the locals have to offer. Not much of a drinker? Spend a day at the Maritime Museum and head downtown through the neighbourhood’s many restaurants and nightspots.
Palm Springs is also popular for its world-famous Hollywood-influenced history where movie stars past and present have flocked year-after-year for relaxation and rejuvenation. Keep an eye out, you never know that celebrity painted on your campervan may just be walking past!
In addition, Palm Springs is well known for its abundance of mid-century modern design, also known as Palm Springs Modernism. It continues to be relaxing and tranquil with abundant natural beauty, awe-inspiring mountains and blue skies.
"I love Los Angeles. I love Hollywood. They're beautiful. Everybody's plastic, but I love plastic. I want to be plastic."
7. Drink the Kool-aid and wander through Joshua Tree National Park...
Up next on your Wicked Camper roadtrip is Joshua Tree National Park. This is an amazing national park of more than 1 million acres of recreational park grounds, featuring the breathtaking desert landscape. Joshua Tree National Park, open year round, is located approximately 50 minutes from Palm Springs (about 130 miles east of Los Angeles).
Attracting over 1.3 million visitors each year, you can drive your campervan through, go hiking and set up a picnic, or go horse riding (if that's what turns you on). Each season of the year brings its unique beauty and characteristics to the awe-inspiring desert landscape.
I know I keep babbling on about the desert here, but it has to be seen to be believed. Two deserts join each other - The Colorado Desert, the eastern section of the park, characterized by a shitload of bushes. The other half is the higher, slightly cooler and wetter Mojave Desert that features the special habitat of the Joshua tree. There’s also a half pipe around too. Whoooda thought, skating in the Mojave Desert man!
8. Relax and soak up some rays at Laguna Beach ...
Get your ass back in your Wicked Camper and on the highway and head down the coast towards San Diego. There’s so much to check out on your way down.
Laguna Beach is one of them. Once a haven for artists, Laguna Beach still abounds with galleries. With heaps of creative types and cool places to check out, I'd spend a couple days here just taking it easy and experiencing the local’s easy way of life.
The beach prides itself on its laid-back attitude and artistic sentiment. Keep an eye out for seals, sea lions, dolphins and the isolated coves along the town's six miles of coastline.
9. Dust up on your Spanish in historic Oceanside...
Take your Wicked Camper to Oceanside and you’ll discover Old Mission San Luis Rey. Take a glimpse of life as it was during the Spanish colonial days.
The mission is the gem of Oceanside man. If you're after some cool sightseeing and want to learn a thing or two, Old Mission San Luis Rey is an essential stop on your roadtrip down the coast.
Park up your campervan, go for a walk through the beautiful rose garden, tour the museum and pick up some souvenirs for your friends, family and pet raccoon.
10. Stuff your face in La Jolla...
Here you’ll find streets littered with shops, sheltered beaches and cultural institutions like the Birch Aquarium. Browse one of the local art museums, such as the Museum of Contemporary Art, or gaze upon the architecture of the Grande Colonial Hotel.
If you’re after a good feed in La Jolla, you’ll be spoilt for choice. There’s heaps of restaurants ranging from international cuisine to those selling local produce.
La Jolla is a beautiful spot to relax and chill out for a couple of days. Take a break from the road and let your wheels cool off.
"Tip the world over on its side and everything loose will land in Los Angeles"
Frank Lloyd Wright
You’ve made it! The San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld, Old Town and much more await. Go and have some fun ya bastards. It’s just what you imagined it to be – soak up that classic Californian experience.
Head down the boardwalk, play some beach volleyball, check out the amusement park at Mission Beach - ffs I’m getting jealous just typing this.
After you’re done swimming and getting sunburnt, hit one of the many beachside restaurants and bars for some awesome music, food and drinks. What a roadtrip! No better way to do it than in a Wicked Camper baby.
